Visiting as a friend, academic, fellow-writer, or student?

A warm welcome to this website! I trust that you will not only come to know me better, but may find your visit enriching and helpful.

A long time ago, I came to the realization that a script is more than just ‘a blueprint for film.’ To truly be a successful manifestation of the form, a script needs to be a work of art in and of itself. It requires the same strict integrity of a poem or novel. A great script demands formal and structural elegance no matter how you approach the page.

It’s not enough to have a great story and strong dialogue: a great script is one that, at every level – from the names of the characters to the layout of the words on the page – creates an irresistible narrative flow that propels the reader to an inevitable dramatic conclusion.

Everyday, I try to write scripts that will allow me to wake up the next morning – no matter how badly an executive producer may butcher my work in rewrites, or how little of my original intent a director may ultimately deliver in the film, or how mercilessly an ill-prepared actor may deliver the lines – and know that I did my job. I created something worthy of professional pride.

This is the ideal for which I strive in my own professional life, and seek to produce in my students.

Once again, welcome! And please visit again.
